Handmade, functional art glass
Studio Beaux produces a line of sand-carved reverse hand painted glass tables, clocks, picture frames, and
switchplates. The work features designs carved in glass that are individually hand-painted with a rich contemporary palette. The finished product uniquely blends craftsmanship, high design, and exciting and vibrant colors with elegant materials and function.
The carving and painting techniques used to produce this work were created and developed by Paul V. Long Jr., the artist and a principal of Studio Beaux, Inc. beginning in 1989. Originally, Paul applied these techniques to "one of a kind" works of art, but Paul has been adapting and developing the process for manufacturing the line in quantity while retaining the "look" and "quality of spirit" that is unique to the work. Paul has determined that only the "human touch" can accomplish this, and so requires and creates new jobs at various skill levels. Studio Beaux will hire and train craftspeople, artisans, and assembly/shipping persons for the twenty-eight step process.
The artist has created works on glass for corporations, churches, restaurants, and individuals for over 22 years. Paul has designed and crafted over 1200 custom and commissioned works for commercial and private use, including work for the Connecticut Paul Newman "Hole in the Wall Gang" camp for terminally ill children. In 1996, Paul (Studio Beaux) was selected by JETRO
(Japan External Trade Organization) to be one of 30 American
artists from whom they would purchase, represent, and promote at
the International Consumer Goods Trade Show in Germany. In addition, several pieces of Paul's work were selected for a two-year exhibit of international craft in Tokyo.
In 1993, Studio Beaux began
production and wholesale marketing of a line of clocks that now
have display in over 300 galleries and stores across America,
Asia, and Japan. Among U.S. stores are Nieman Marcus, Jacobsons,
and many of the top 100 art/contemporary craft galleries in the
country.
In 2002, Studio Beaux began
restructuring its corporate mission and operational makeup, and
now includes Frank Yoder as a partner. The rejuvenated Studio
Beaux made its debut in April, 2003 with a dedication to
customer service and continued design and delivery of
outstanding functional art glass.
